Former French Laundry chef Corey Lee (Benu, Monsieur Benjamin) collaborated with international culinary legends to create the menu at this highbrow SFMOMA bistro, where dishes replicate established recipes from the likes of Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud and René Redzepi. Patrons choose from communal counters and smaller tables in the casual and formal halves of a minimalist space befitting its museum setting.

Beautiful modern decor, friendly attentive service, innovative creative unique delicious more small plate style menu! Carrot soup and cuttlefish cappuccino were heavenly; the lobster and farro mushroom risotto-very good. Service was excellent—worth the 20% and shared with dishwashers and cooks too:) $2 bread given entirely to charity. Will return to try other dishes! Highly recommend!

You get to try some of the best dishes from around the world without having to travel thousands of miles. It’s not your typical upscale restaurant. You are essentially building your own tasting menu from the various options. Plan to order 2- 3 dishes plus dessert per person. It’s not cheap but at the same time it rather inexpensive for a Michelin star restaurant with solid food. For two, we spent $230 including two drinks. I think most of the negative reviews here are due to a misunderstanding of the concept of In Situ. It has a warm, inviting, casual feel but it is nonetheless fine dining. Small dishes are just a few bites. The apocalypse burger is a bite size dish at a full sized burger price, please don’t be surprised. Go here. It’s worth it. Don’t overlook the carrot soup. It’s mind blowing!

If this is your very first visit at In Situ, the fact that you're at a fine dining establishment may escape you even if you know that its concept is to serve dishes from some of the world's best restaurants. The reason being is not the food which is excellent, but the space which although beautiful and open, perversely lacks the usual fanfare associated with fancy restaurants; you don't need to make a reservation, you don't need to dress up and there are no airs about the place. This is important to note so as not to have wrong expectations as to really feel satiated you should plan to spend at least $70 per person (wine not included). If you don't want to spend that much, it might still be worth sampling one item as a snack but know that it won't fill you up. All in all I recommend coming here as a group and letting as many dishes take you from one corner of the world to the next.
