Beef ribs & other meats in rustic digs

The Zagat Review
“Consistently good” , “no-frills” barbecue like “big meaty ribs and juicy brisket” is the signature of this Downtown outfit, where “cold beer” is also served amid a “rustic Texas atmosphere” on tables with red-checkered cloths; while some claim it’s not the best there is, most agree “it’ll do just fine.”

This is a great BBQ restaurant I would like to recommend. The chicken BBQ was very tender and very good flavor. Pork rib was great as well, cooked very well with good seasoning covered. But the beef brisket was too greasy and green bean was tooooooo salty. Corn was good but too much cream. Overall was great. I recommend BBQ chicken and ribs. But don't order green beans, very very very salty.

Five stars for the lady working the cash register. She recommended that we split the sampler platter which comes with two sides. We have an overflowing plate of their specialties which includes Fred Flintstone looking ribs, brisket and sausage. The ribs are too tough for me but the brisket is good. Surprisingly, the sausage was my favorite item on the plate. Of course, their sauce is good and unique. I asked if the interesting hanging metal sign for a doctor was real of not and it is real. The cash register lady told me the brands bunt into the wall were brands made by this former iron works business. There is a brand made for Bob Hope in the glass case.

Amazing BBQ restaurant with an equally amazing staff. From their Brisket to their all Beef Sausage, their HUGE Beef Ribs and my favorite, their Cole Slaw, you will leave full and thinking, "when can I get back here?" We have tried many other BBQ restaurants in and outside of the Austin area and by far Ironworks has been the best. Not only is Ironworks a must go to spot during every visit to Austin, but they've also catered a party for us recently. For an authentic, old school BBQ experience, Ironworks BBQ IS your best choice! PS: Don't forget the Cole Slaw
