“Consistently good” , “no-frills” barbecue like “big meaty ribs and juicy brisket” is the signature of this Downtown outfit, where “cold beer” is also served amid a “rustic Texas atmosphere” on tables with red-checkered cloths; while some claim it’s not the best there is, most agree “it’ll do just fine.”

The only reason why I have this place a 4 instead of a 3 is because of the food. It was very delicious and started warm long enough to take the food to Zilk M. Park for a picnic. They were also very sweet and nice. Once they finally got to me. The reason why I almost gave them a 3 is because they were not only taking a long time on each order BUT when it was my turn they didn't even acknowledge me and let me know they'd be with me as soon as they could or asked if I was ready at the very least. They almost looked like they were just hanging out instead of working. They made up for it a bit when they did finally come up to us. The young man was very sweet and respectful and the cashier was fast and courteous.

We had some friends in town for the weekend and their hotel was pretty close to this little spot, so they were determined to try this place out. The first thing I noticed is that there was no air conditioning, not necessarily a deal breaker, but it was pretty humid. The guys ordered the different types of various meat selections and I opted for the pulled pork sandwich. Before even putting the sauce on it the bun was so soggy I couldn't even hold it, leaving me to eat it with a fork. I tried both sauces offered at the table and wasn't overly impressed with either as they were both sort of bland. We also ordered the sides of potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and the coleslaw. All were also a little bland. It should be noted that the staff was incredibly friendly and it wasn't too crowded. I have my other favorite bbq spots throughout Austin, but I would suggest Terry Blacks or Coopers if you're staying in the downtown area.

Old school iron Workshop now turned into quality barbecue restaurant. This place is just fantastic I love everything on the menu. As mentioned it was a 19th century Iron Work Shop along the creek to downtown Austin it doesn't have proper air conditioning or heating so it can't get really warm it also get very cold depending on the season one thing that is consistent though the food is delicious.
