“True” NY-style pizza emerges from the coal-fired brick ovens of these separately owned “bang-for-the-buck” pie joints; the West Village “institution” is “worth the wait in line” ( “forget the decor” ), while the “huge” Theater District outlet is set in an old church with “beautiful” stained-glass windows.

Went there based upon reviews and service was excellent, server knowledgeable and helpful for information to get around the city. However I was not impressed with the pizza at all. The crust was basically burnt. I understand the brick oven can place some extra char, but entire bottom was to charred for me. Three of the four of us in our group preferred another pizza place within the area. The service and knowledge is the only reason I give them a two. As it should have been a one. I wanted to send back but one person in the party likes lots of Char, and they thought was great. Their competition had better crust, and better cheese.

I found this place by total accident. I was in the area and looking for good pizza and I took out my phone. I looked up and saw this place in front of me. It was like fate. The place had an appealing look to it and I had to try it out. I was very hungry and wanted a great pizza. Boy, did I get it. This pizza was very thick and amazing. I liked the pizza a lot and I also got amazing service. This felt like a family place. It was not fancy, but the food was so good I have to talk about it. This is a really great shop in New York City. If you want really great pizza quickly, then try this place.

I liked the pie from John's a lot - authentic and exactly what I was looking for on my NY pizza craving. Does feel a bit expensive depending how you order. The base medium is $20 and each topping costs a further $4 even if it is pepperoni or garlic or cheese. Guess it's some encouragement to keep things simple. Good meal for sharing, naturally. We found service a bit average, took a while to order and a bit grumpy.
