John's of Times Square
Brick-oven pizza in a converted church
Pizza · West 40s · $$
The Zagat Review
“True” NY-style pizza emerges from the coal-fired brick ovens of these separately owned “bang-for-the-buck” pie joints; the West Village “institution” is “worth the wait in line” ( “forget the decor” ), while the “huge” Theater District outlet is set in an old church with “beautiful” stained-glass windows.

First time at Johns and it was a great pizza. The small pizza has 6 slices and is big enough for 2. The larger pizza that has 8 slices could do 3. The building is also wonderful and it's worth taking a peek. Consider when you want to go compared with theatre showing times. It gets quieter after 7.

Absolutely amazing food, service, and drinks. Very nice and attentive servers and house staff. Managers are always present and visible and will take care of any issues one might have. Food is a little expensive but as far as NYC goes it's fairly priced. You get what you pay for, though, as the food really is amazing. Drinks are made perfectly and quickly by very nice and knowledgeable bartenders. Wait tends to be very long but that's because it is so popular and good. Lots of table that fill up very quick.

Pizza and Bruschetta were excellent as well as the server. Food took a little lot but it was extremely busy so it is understandable. Waiting system could use some improvement as they have a board that flashes your number and you are expected to obsessively watch the board for your number. Occasionally a hostess would come by and call the number while proclaiming she won’t call again. Restaurant is in a old church and is a beautiful building with stained glass everywhere. Location is great as well near Times Square and several theatres.
