The “granddaddy of all NYC steakhouses” , this circa-1885 Midtown “temple to meat” remains “rock solid” , with “sinful” “Flintstones-size” mutton chops and other “succulent” slabs of beef in “masculine” “museum” -like surrounds with “lines upon lines” of antique pipes on the ceiling; it’s “not for the weak of wallet” , but “welcoming” service and an “endless” scotch selection are other reasons you “won't regret splurging.”

Have you ever really just wanted a steak, and thought that if you were going to eat a steak, you might as well pay top dollar for a top quality one? Keens Steakhouse is the place to go. And boy, was it good. We had the Porterhouse for three, and it was perfectly seared, and cooked to the medium that we asked for. There were pieces of "melt in your mouth" fat right around the bone that makes it such a worthy cut. Granted, the whole thing is like shoving 2 pounds of meat into your gullet at once, but feel free to take a doggy bag. They offer complimentary bread rolls to start, and they're nothing to shout about. Just make sure not to fill up on them so you can eat more steak. Or use the bread to soak up the fat so you can eat more steak. Your choice. Definitely recommend making a reservation way in advance, they're on open table too for your convenience. This place is hands down my favorite steakhouse in NY. I love the old school vibe with all the pipes on the ceilings. The service is great and the food is phenomenal. Portions are HUGE so be prepared to share, unless you're a beast.

Absolutely one of the BEST restaurants in NYC!! And for a vegetarian, it's enjoyable and neat. I have never been to Keens when it hasn't been busy!! But with all of the hustle and bustle, they manage to present themselves professionally, deliver an insatiable dinner and follow the savory up with some delectable dessert offerings. If an impression is to be made, the nostalgia pinned to the ceilings and walls offer much for the eye to look at. And if drinks are your course, then one only has to be mesmerized by Our Lady of Keens in her undress who graciously overlooks all those in part to good and savory libations. You can't go wrong...!! and they happen to make some of the most delicious drinks in the city!! A true NY institution!!!

Not sure how this place is so highly rated??? I've had better flavored steaks at Longhorn. Steak was a great cut just zero flavor. Very disappointed especially because this was our one steakhouse stop while visiting NYC for the weekend. Service was fair at best, food bland at best, and the only reason I was able to give a second star was the decor. Very nice historic ambiance.
