Kith and Kin
Afro-Caribbean fare in sleek surrounds
African · Southwest Waterfront · $$$
In this glossy District Wharf Intercontinental Hotel showcase on the Southwest Waterfront, Top Chef alumni Kwame Onwuachi draws on his West African, Creole and Caribbean roots, offering refined dishes like jollof rice, spiced shrimp and berbere-rubbed steak. A black-and-white mural of inspirational quotes from famous chefs is the dominant feature of the airy, uber-modern bar and dining room, which also features waterfront views through its huge windows and from a patio.

Great atmosphere. Luxurious and posh setting. The staff was friendly and very efficient. The food was really good. I particularly enjoyed the ground nut soup and the rum cake and ice cream dessert. The oxtail was just okay. I went during restaurant week and would definitely go back (maybe next restaurant week).

Kith and Kin is a wonderful addition to the DC food scene. Located front and center on the waterfront at the new DC Wharf. A modern / trendy, high-end, dining experience with a variety of African, Jamaican, and Cajun flavors in dishes designed to be shared. We thoroughly enjoyed our dishes and all decided that we would be back. Our only comment would be to allow plenty of time for a visit since the kitchen was leisurely in the preparation of our delicious lunch.

The food, atmosphere, staff and views were outstanding! My husband and I went there for Sunday breakfast and the food was divine! The pancakes with the Ethiopian honey butter were outstanding. The breakfast potatoes were also a delicious hit! Hubby loved his crab Benedict. The only negative was how long it took to get our food but we will blame that on the “growing pains” of being a new restaurant. We will definitely go back! Next time to try out the dinner and drinks.
