La Scala Ristorante Italiano
Fine Sicilian dining & a bocce court
Italian · Little Italy · $$
The Zagat Review
"Special-occasion" dining and an "indoor bocce ball" court meet with "incredible atmosphere" under one roof at this Little Italy destination where high-end, "delectable" Sicilian fare and an "extensive" wine list are served by a "long-tenured" team offering "impeccable" service; upstairs, away from the fray, the mood is "romantic" , while for the true sports-minded, an "active bar scene" attracts the "requisite beautiful people."

Seated in a cramped back table for two near a kitchen entrance. My chair had to be rotated for me to access and sit in it as the back was flush against a piece of furniture. The food was delicious. But, the first cup of coffee was obviously left over from lunch (we arrived at 4 in order miss most of the Mother's Day crunch)...and was barely warm. It wasn't until after the meal arrived and we responded with a request for an additional cup when staff asked if we needed was obviously empty. The table near us was served their desert order and had to request a 'fresh' brewed cup b/c theirs was substandard as well. The desert was completely consumed before the fresh cup arrived. When it came, ours was steaming and much better than the first cup. The meal was hot and delicious but we had to flag staff down for the check. Highly rated and the food itself was good but the rest...not so much.

Had such a great experience at La Scala! Everything was cooked perfectly, from the appetizers to the dessert. You can really tell that the kitchen doesn't cut corners with their ingredients, especially with the home made pasta. The service was also friendly and attentive. We want to make it a point to explore more of what Little Italy has to offer, but after eating at La Scala it's going to be very hard not to keep wandering back through their doors when we're in the area.

La Scala is hands down my favorite restaurant. I’ve loved Italian food for as long as I can remember, but I can actually say that this place has changed the way I eat Italian food. Every bite of every dish, even the bread and asparagus given to you prior to your meal, is packed with fresh ingredients and authentic flavor. Each and every one of the servers are on top of filling water glasses and making sure that your meal is the best it can be, but our favorite is Sam, who we’ve dubbed the James Bond of servers. He is quick, polite, funny, and makes you feel like you’re his only table. I have not been disappointed by any dish I’ve tried and I intend to come back as many times as necessary to try all of them.
