Le Colonial
Trendy French-Vietnamese restaurant
Vietnamese · Nob Hill · $$$
The Zagat Review
Exuding a "sensual atmosphere" recalling "pre-war Saigon" , this Nob Hill French-Vietnamese serves a "beautiful" menu that's on the "pricey" side, so bargain-hunters make a meal of starters or head for the lounge (with live music or DJs most nights); wherever you perch, service is so "helpful" that it works both for "groups" grabbing "drinks after work" or couples on "date night."

We went with a large group and had terrible service from start to finish. The waiter had to be chased down to take our order. One of our party was late so they removed her plate and cutlery despite us reassuring them she was on her way and then took forever to give them back. At the end of the meal they claimed they could not do separate checks (despite promising at the start they could) and were very rude about it. The food was fine but nothing to write home about; it certainly does not make up for one of the worst services I have witnessed at a US restaurant.

The food was good. The wait was absurd. I came here with my boyfriend for my birthday. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. We put in drink orders and appetizer and entree orders shortly thereafter. The drinks came in a reasonable amount of time, as did the apps. We waited an hour and 45 minutes for entrees. The waiter stopped by several times to apologize and let us know the food would be ready soon, but that turned out to not be true. Nothing was comped for the long wait either. The food was good, but not good enough to wait at the table for nearly two hours. Highlights were the coconut rice and the cocktails.

One of the best places San Francisco has to offer! My friend and I ordered the Chef's sampler for appetizers, which included two different rolls, dumplings, tuna and pork ribs, all of them were very good, each with a special flavor. For main we had the lamb ribs and a side of fried rice; the lamb was so soft and the flavours were amazing! Finally we had the layer crepe cake, a bit sweet but with an espresso you have the perfect combination. Definitely a place that I would recommend and would love to visit again!
