The Zagat Review
"Excellent" wood-fired pizzas, "tasty pasta" and "stellar seafood dishes" from the Puglia region of Italy lure fans to this "homey" West Loop kitchen that lets "you leave the noise of the L and Lake Street behind" when you enter; an "accommodating staff" , a bar with "fabulous" wines and a deli counter up front round out its assets.

A hidden gem in the West loop, on Lake Street, not Randolph. Everything we had was SUPERB from killer apps to salad to pasta, prepared in southern Italian style. Service was top notch and the barkeep, a pleasant girl named Sylvia, makes killer craft cocktails. Warm atmosphere and overall a place to return to often. GO HERE!! You will have a fantastic experience!!

They have that wonderful pizza so simple and tasty that you have to ask why everyone doesn't make it like that. But then so few can. Five in my party had the pizza tonight but i went for one of the specials. I was served the finest grilled beef of my life. It was a loose fillet perfectly seared on each side so that the rich flavor of a "burnt end" was in every bite. To go on would cheapen the experience i just had. Great restaurant!

Macello is one of the best Italian restaurants we have tried in the city. The service was great, they have a good wine selection and most of our dishes were excellent. We ordered the pizza macello, the braciole beef sirloin rolled and a side of the shrimp risotto. The pizza was amazing. My wife loved the sauce and seasoning while I thought the crust was the best part. Likewise the beef sirloin was delicious. Between the generous portion of beef and pasta and the seasoning in the sauce, I think it melts in your mouth. The shrimp risotto was our least favorite dish. It includes two jumbo sized shrimp that were good but the risotto was dry and lacked flavor. We would not order it again. On a side note, Macello is super family friendly for those with young children.
