Mama's On the Half Shell
Hearty seafood in an old-school tavern

The Zagat Review
"Butter, cream and deep-fried batter rule the menu" at this "reasonably priced" Canton Square tavern offering "large portions" of "guilty-pleasure seafood" , plus an "amazing" oyster selection and "freshly squeezed orange crush" ; it's "popular (read noisy and crowded)" , but the service is "timely" , and there are plenty of places to perch among the "pictures and artifacts from the city's past" – at the "lively bar downstairs" or "cozy tables upstairs" – or on the sidewalk in the summer.

We were here last Sunday a party of seven with three kids included. We booked the previous day and they gave us a fantastic table. The food was just AMAZING and the service OUTSTANDING. The four adults we shared crab cakes (the best I tried so far in Maryland), mussels and calamari. They were so good that we had a second round. After the lunch we could watch a football match at the bar, they let us stay there and even invited us for a coffee for free. Nice food, nice people, nice atmosphere, nice place. I am not sure whether you might find a better place but if you are for good seafood and not overpriced this restaurant will not disappoint you.

Wow! Loved this place! Great service, everyone is very friendly. Cozy fantastic bar. Must have some beer mussels and a fresh squeezed grapefruit crush! Yo can't go wrong. Expect to wait a bit to get seated, especially if you're looking for a bar spot.

I really enjoyed this seafood restaurant during our short time in Baltimore. Out of this world crab cakes and chowder. Friendly service. Neither my wife or I thought our main dishes were as good as the starters. Neither of us cared for the crab imperial, and the Chesapeake chicken was good, but overcooked. It's very close to five stars, and definately worth the trip for just crab cakes and soup.
