The Zagat Review
"Innovative but approachable" Cal-American offerings and a "classic" burger are "popular" draws at this SoMa gastropub occupying a "bright" space done up like a "hip" butcher shop (complete with specials scrawled on rolled brown paper); "welcoming" servers tend to the "lively" crowds, and though the "noise level can get pretty high" , most say "what's not to like?"

I don't understand how this place has such a high rating. After looking for places to eat that were open on a Friday night at 10:30pm, found this place on Yelp. What a huge mistake that was. Good luck finding parking. The food is overpriced and mediocre. For two ny steak dinners and a pork chop dinner I paid $160. That was with three cokes and a $20 five shrimp appetizer. Shrimp tasted like bleach from the pot they were boiled in. The steak was not medium well like i ordered. Chef must only cook rare and well done. The twice baked potatoes are the size of golf balls and the steak was only 8oz max after cooking. I guarantee there are better places in SF that don't cater to trust fund hipsters sipping a glass of $10 wine all night.

Just coming into the restaurant, you can feel that the foundation is hollow but stable. You can definitely feel people moving. The whole place itself is beautiful-wonderful atmosphere for dates as the lights are dim. One of the defects is that it is very crowded. There is room to breathe, but not enough room to move around. Because everyone is crowded into a small area, there are voices bouncing on the walls and it is very loud. Not loud enough to not hear across the table, but speak up when inside. For an average meal that costs around twenty to thirty dollars I would’ve expected better, but the food quality was not so great. The meal was either soggy or dry, not to extremes. Definitely salty or bland, there was no in between. You do have to reserve a spot in order to grab a table, so just in case, book hours in advance.

Absolutely exquisite cuisine. Mushroom soup was rich and smooth with small pearl onions. Polenta with mushrooms, arugula and poached egg is sumptuous and has a lovely tang. Service is attentive. Great location if you are on your way to the train.
