Taking the reins from chef Chip Roman, former chef de cuisine Yianni Arhontoulis transforms this compact, “modernist” Chestnut Hill townhouse into a tasting menu–optional BYO that still dials back any "temple-of-gastronomy" mystique; Roman’s taste for seafood remains, and the kitchen works with elevated techniques to create well-conceived plates like roasted eggplant with bonito and basil or salmon with wheat berries – dishes that you probably “wouldn’t touch elsewhere.”

We had reservations for 815pm on a Wednesday. We tried the tasting menu and were not disappointed. It is a small room, so my suggestion is to not arrive too early. They were full up when I arrived 15 minutes early. They are a BYOB, so no waiting area. They are a little pricey, but the ability to bring your own booze mitigates that issue. Staff were very attentive, with not a hint of tension, as we lingered for three hours. Lastly, the decibel level can make conversation challenging when the room is full.

Mica is a gem of a restaurant for Philadelphia. Amazing meal set, allergy restriction friendly, and a BYOB. This weekend was variations on lobster for dinner.
