Chef John Fraser (Dovetail, Narcissa) uses a “global palate of flavors and techniques” to craft “delicious, interesting” vegetarian cuisine at this “grown-up” Greenwich Villager; a “fresh” modern space and “conscientious” team boost the “class” factor – “too bad it's already an impossible reservation.”

I had really high expectations from Nix. But what I've eaten here was not memorable. We started off with three cocktails, I got the Nix as it was recommended by our waiter. I should've tried something else as it came with a cherry tomato which isn't my favorite. Next we got the papadam chips and veggies with two dips - walnut red pepper and mint avocado. The first one felt very regular - like I've tasted this before. The avocado dip was strongly overpowered by the mint and ginger in it. I personally did not relish it. We also tried the cauliflower buffalo wings with buns. The cauliflower was very crispy and nicely flavored but the buns could've been salted better in my opinion. The Mayo that came with it helped the taste. We also got two other entrees, one with fried cactus and the other was dumplings. I thought they were lacking somewhat in flavor as well. Coming to the dessert which was also recommended to us in the beginning of our order because it would need a long time in the oven - a baked pineapple with whipped cream, toasted coconut strips and tamarind glaze. This was a blast of flavors and all of us really enjoyed digging into it. For the prices I feel like they could've served us much more flavor and bigger portions.

I had heard amazing stuff about Nix and was super excited to try their dishes. However my experience last night was disappointing. From the 6 dishes we ordered 4 were too spicy to eat and also too spicy to allow us to taste the original ingredients. I think this should be some how stated in the menu or by the waiters when you order.

I went for lunch and the service was incredibly slow. It took two hours during the middle of a work day! I could have overlooked that as part of the relaxed aesthetics but I then I found a hair in my food, twice! Once in my appetizer and once in my main course. Completely disgusting. The flavors of the food were great but the two hairs completely killed my appetite.
