That "old San Francisco feel" "cute" , "quaint" and "great for a date" – sets the tone at this "neighborhood" Italian "favorite" , where the "consistent menu" highlights "terrific pastas" ; the no-reservations policy and "reasonable prices" mean there's often a "wait" , but the "friendly" atmosphere makes it "worth the hike to the top of Nob Hill."

My favorite Italian spot in the city. Pasta is always fresh and just has the right amount of firmness. I've had numerous dishes here and they never disappoint. Their sauces are so dang good. There's a reason why the line is always out the door... and it's worth the wait. I would avoid big parties here as they don't take reservations and the restaurant is a bit small. Either avoid busy times or order take out. Two bathrooms. Avoid going to the one next to the kitchen as it is just about the smallest restroom I've ever seen!

This Cafe is not spacious, but the outdoor seating made for a relaxing lunch along a calm Street. Their food was mostly good, but I would probably order something different next time. Today I tried the gnocchi with Bolognese and the sauce was wonderful, but you had to get used to the very strong taste of one spice, I think it was sage. Also the gnocchi could have been a little bit better cooked. The service was okay, friendly, but not very many visits to my table, because they were quite busy.

Make sure you get here before 515pm. By 530pm, the wait for a couple is at least 45 minutes, and for 4 it will be an hour and a half. They have a $20 corkage fee so bring a bottle or two of your favorite wines and they will give you some glasses to enjoy them while you wait. The space is intimate and the kitchen is open, but the food makes all of it worth it. Get the carbonara and if they have a calzone as a special, definitely get that too. Bright and deep flavors, not too heavy on the butter and the cream.
