Nom Wah Philadelphia
Dim sum cooked to order in warm environs
Dim Sum · Chinatown · $
NYC's circa-1920 dim sum landmark plants an offshoot on an out-of-the-way Chinatown strip, serving classics like fried shrimp balls and pan-fried dumplings – but don't expect to see carts roaming the dining room since the small bites come out to order. The setting is cozy, decorated with antique furnishings, lantern lights and wood tables.

The dim sum menu is very shrimp and pork heavy. Not many chicken, beef, or vegetarian choices. The shrimp and snow pea leaf dumplings were excellent. The sesame bun with bean curd was very good. The steamed rice with Chinese sausage was generously sized. The only disappointing item was the steamed spare ribs, which were fatty and greasy.

Convenient to the convention center. I was alone Sunday lunch hour and was comfortable eating here by myself. The servers are polite and friendly. I had the beef ho fun which I really enjoyed. It can get loud when all the tables are occupied. They could use some sound absorbers on the wall but otherwise I enjoyed my lunch and would go back.

Nice place to get fresh dumplings and good food. The fried rice was fresh and light with terrific flavors. The space is nice with good seating and the staff is very friendly. The Chinese broccoli was tender and very good. Worth stopping in if you are in the area.
