American eatery using house produce
American · Prospect Heights · $$$
A chef with an all-star history (Per Se, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Chicago’s Alinea) has teamed up with a farmer to open this Prospect Heights American drawing from super-local sources, including its own backyard garden. The woodsy interior brings nature inside with the beginnings of a live green wall, and has a chef’s counter for watching the action.

Brunch was absolutely outstanding. Lots of places in Brooklyn claim to be farm to table or sustainable, but Olmsted does all of those things while being hands down the most delicious food I’ve ever had. Get a brunch reservation if you can, and then wait a month for the date to arrive while you obsessively look at the menu. Once the day is finally there, get the egg rolls, the Zero-Waste carrot kathi roll, the breakfast burger, the duck duo, and the apple strudel. Everything you’ll eat will be amazing and you be sad to go back to regular food.

The food and drink are all hits. The ambiance is comfortable and airy with service to match. I recently counted the number of staff on the floor for such a tiny spot and was astounded by how open and free it felt even though their staff are awful close to matching the headcount on the floor. Its hard to snag a res, but if you can I recommend the bar! I cannot say enough good things about the mix of cuisines and the care and attention from smoke filled cocktails to hand-whisked Matcha and fondue in the garden. This may be a harbinger of the end of affordability, but its one indulgence I will permit myself.

I’ve been to Olmsted more than a handful of times and each experience has been wonderful. Always welcoming & knowledge staff. The food is on point and changes frequently, but there are some staples on the menu (carrot crepe),etc. The cocktails are delicious as well. The menu is meant for sharing and you’ll have an opportunity to try many dishes.
