Pete's Tavern
Landmark watering hole with Italian fare
American · Gramercy Park · $$
The Zagat Review
A “Gramercy Park tradition” , this circa-1864 “landmark” turns out “gently priced” Italian-American pub grub in an “old-time” space where former regular O. Henry “would still be comfortable” ; though the food's “passable” , it’s the “history, charm” and “lively” front bar that “brings you back.”

We asked a bartender someplace else for a recommendation and they told us to go here. We luckily got decent parking. Very busy place but wasn't long until we were seated. We are careful about what we eat so we opted for unsweetened iced tea. Unfortunately they only had the pink sugar substitute and I don't consume anything with Saccharin or Aspertame so unsweetened it remained. Me and husband both ordered the prime rib and it had a good flavor despite not being remotely close to rare like I ordered ( see pic ) the portion was the largest portion I have ever seen and I couldn't even eat half. We opted for veggies as well and they were seasoned with butter and garlic and we loved them. They came Julienne style and again a very large portion. The price was very reasonable therefore we will chance it again and be back with our own sugar hoping to get rare Prime Rib.

Came here for a pint expecting an old, vintage bar experience. The atmosphere, while nice and inviting, feels more young and hip than what it’s history would have you think. With that said, good beer options, good service, food looks appetizing. Would come again for dinner.
