"Savory" "modern" Scandinavian fare and "unusual, delicious" cocktails provide a "real taste treat" at this "quiet" , "cozy" and somewhat "hidden" Hayes Valley "gem" at the Inn at the Opera; "artistic preparations" and a "knowledgeable" staff round out an "upscale" experience that "brings it all home."

Unique Food Experience When I think about great food, I tend to remember my mothers cooking, then I think about restaurants that have wowed me with their explosive flavors and wondrous environments. I have had meals which stopped me cold mid bite to remember that having taste buds is one of the greatest joys of being a human. Plaj has given me one of these experience. As a group of four we had appetizers, oysters, soup, salad, entrees, and desserts and all of us found ourselves struck dumb lacking words to describe how we felt at different times throughout the night. A crawdad soup, features the best lobster bisque you could imagine, but light, silken texturally perfect. Croutons, which added the crunch and sour salty bread, then a rich wonderful cognac whipped cream. And, as almost an afterthought, a dill oil. Why would all this work, I don't know, but it is amazing and made all of us forget that we had even ordered other food. Every dish is a reminder that there are people in this world, wonderful people, Chefs that care about food and care that it is presented in a form that makes you fall in love all over again. The dishes look like real food, they taste like the memories of childhood and loves lost, they exhibit the wondrous feeling of being a human being and enjoying life. The staff are wonderful and the represent people that are actually happy to go into work. They have tasted the dishes, they know the menu, they even know which drinks you might like throughout the night. They are well trained, but more importantly they treat you as a person and are just as excited to share your excitement at the wonderful meal. If you are in the City, and find yourself wanting something worth your dollars, stop by. Have a drink, have some oysters, ask an employee what the best dish is of the day, and then enjoy a ride to food greatness.

They've got some special dishes that you don't see at the other places, like elk and blodpudding. Ambient light is dim, dark interior design theme. They serve very slowly; but good for having conversations

Tucked away at the Inn @ the Opera, Pläj is an interesting place. The food is clean and portions are enough to be filling without being overly so. It’s a classier establishment, so jeans and t-shirts would feel out of place here - try something a little nicer. Definitely try the Gioia Burrata and the Swedish Meatballs. Staff is knowledgeable about the menu and service is good. It is a good stop before catching a show at the Opera or at the Orpheum down the street.
