This “excellent” American cafe mini-chain has nailed a “winning formula” : “gigantic portions” of “rich, NOLA-type breakfast foods” , “bottomless coffee” and “killer” cocktails all served in a homey setting; it’s no wonder there are sometimes “waits” for the “moderately priced” eats – fortunately, “quick” , “conscientious” servers ease the pain, and help make it “the place to go for breakfast after a night out.”

I'm not too keen on writing bad reviews . . . but sometimes there's no getting around it. I wanted to like this place. A friend recommended it. Walking up to the building, I was stoked. An old bank converted into a cafe. In truth, that was the highlight of the entire Ruby Slipper experience . . . because then I walked in. The inside of the place isn't as interesting as the outside. But hey, I'm no interior designer. We were sat in a corner table and eventually got an order in. The place wasn't very busy, but it got busier as we sat. A few tables sat and quite a few people went to sit at the bar. I got the feeling that was where the regulars congregated, maybe cos it was easier to get your waiter's attention there. I only saw my waiter when he took our order. A runner brought out our food. I was missing a side, so I guess my server never heard me order it. Ah well. My omelet was okay, nothing spectacular. My friend said the same about the benedicts he ordered. We sat for a while keeping our empty plates company . . . and waited for our server to drop the check . . . or check up on us . . . anything. It never happened. I got tired of waiting and strolled out the door while my friend went up to the bar to get our check and pay up. I didn't ask him how much he left for a tip. Why rub salt in his wound. He did mention outside that he was handed the wrong check first, and was given the correct one after alerting whomever it was who took care of him. What a way to start a Wednesday morning. I'm giving one star for the architecture and one star for a female server who I saw trying to help my friend get our bill.

This place is delicious!! It's one of the best brunches I have ever had. They usually have a long wait on busy brunch days but it's absolutely worth the wait! It's a restaurant you need to visit while in New Orleans!

The Ruby slipper is part of Louisiana's history and the food is very diverse and different. I can't forget to mention delicious. It seems to be a main attraction to both Tourist and locals. The employees were very kind and made sure we were seated in a timely fashion.
