The Zagat Review
Proponents of chef-owner Frank Bonanno's casual smoke shack "hidden" "down under Larimer Square" in LoDo promise "fall-off-the-bone tender" BBQ and "decadent sides" delivered by an "accommodating staff" ; though critics complain the menu is "pricier" and a bit more "complicated" than its "traditional" counterparts, they still recommend stopping at the counter to "pick up a pie on your way out."

Can I just say: YUM! A nice, low-key spot to scratch that BBQ-craving itch. The staff is very attentive, we had a great experience. Also, if you're gluten-intolerant (like me), the BBQ sauces are totally edible!! I believe they are all made in-house and absolutely delicious. I still crave the hot sauce and would definitely buy a bottle just to keep in my house. Their BBQ meats were super delicious, I just stay away from the fried foods (cross-contamination & such). Be sure to check out Green Russell for drinks after!

I stumbled upon this hidden gem when planning an early Valentine’s date for my husband. We’ve both decided it’s one of our new favorites! I love the location and atmosphere. It being underground really makes you feel like you’re in the inner circle of one of the best secrets in Denver. The drinks are fun and the food is phenomenal. We both ordered combo platters so we could try a variety of things and were not disappointed. The brisket was delicious- though my one complaint would be that I asked for a mix of burnt ends and brisket slices if the chef would allow it and would do just burnt ends if he wasn’t feeling that. Instead I got served just brisket with zero burnt ends. Not sure if that was a chef power play or not but I ate it anyway. The smoked chicken and Carolina style bbq sauce of some the best I’ve ever had but the grits... the grits were next level. If you’re looking for good bbq in Denver somewhere that’s classy but not pretentious and yet not wear your napkin as a bib and check your dignity at the door- this is it.

I found this place by complete chance on a trip to Denver. The staff was very nice considering i tried a little of everything on the menu. The Pulled pork was very tasty and well as the ribs. The brisket had perfect coloring, was not dry at all and had a great oak smoke taste. The Chicken sausage was some of the best i have ever tried (def hand made). The slaw was a mayo base that i normally don't like (i hate mayo) but i liked it surprisingly. Mac and cheese was very good and spicy! You must try the fried jalapenos as a app with the cheese sauce (amazing). They have a mustard sauce and vinegar base as well as Spicy Vin base(my fav) that were all good. The burn end sliders were a good and for only $2 on happy hour they are a MUST. I enjoyed this as had enough food to eat the next day. Last but not least REALLY GOOD Sweat tea!!! Like we have back in South Carolina. I was very impressed!
