Simon & The Whale
Handsome spot for globally accented fare
Murray Hill · $$$
From Gabriel Stulman (Bar Sardine, Fedora), this upscale Gramercy dinner spot in the Freehand New York is strong on seafood and bright produce, accenting the dishes with Japanese and Italian flavors. The furnishings have a rich midcentury-modern look, while the counters facing the corner windows offer a lively view.

Food: We shared 5 different dishes and honestly, everything was superb. The highlights were for sure: 1. Squid Confit, 2. Black Bass Crudo, and 3. Sunchoke Casonsei. We also had the Black Bread and Chicory Tonnato Salad which were both amazing. Tip: Make a reservation and do it ahead of time. It's very popular (for good reason) and getting a table is not something you can expect to do the week/night of. Ambiance: 5 stars. Great booths, tiled walls, perfect lighting and nice service.

Great vibe, original seafood-forward menu of rich tastes and scrumptious smells, beautiful lighting, friendly staff and a spectacular drinks menu. After you are finished go upstairs for a drink at the clubby George Washington bar. My new go-to spot.

Very hopping. If you're by yourself, sit at the bar and Cody will take good care of you.
