Right on the Hyde Street cable car line, this "neighborhoody" Russian Hill bistro from vets of Michael Mina and Fat Angel offers a "delightful" (if "limited" ) Cal-American menu accompanied by "hard-to-find" beers and wines; the "cozy-chic" setting is in keeping with the "welcoming" service and "pricey but not-over-the-top" tabs, making it "worth many return trips."

We recently went to Stones Throw for New Years Dinner and I was absolutely dissatisfied. The food was mediocre and extremely expensive. Out of all the restaurants in SF I would never recommend this. Regardless of the food what was the worst part of this experience was the rude and passive wait staff. After growing up working in restaurants I understand a busy shift but this staff was beyond rude. If you are looking for a place to go to eat I highly suggest avoiding this restaurant. Having lived in the area long enough I will let you know that the surrounding places to eat are MUCH BETTER!

Great service and yummy food. I had a poached trout. The sauce was something I never had before. The herb sprinkled on top was also new to me. Enjoyed a lot. The portion was not so big, so order some appetizers if you come here hungry. (My friend ordered a cheese burger, which was smallish and came with 7 tater tots)
