Sub Rosa is one of my favorite spots in Richmond. We live nearby and love walking for a coffee and sweet treat. Their baked goods are buttery, flaky, and always delicious. They are cooked perfectly in the stone/brick oven and it leaves a bit of crispness on the baked goods that is difficult to replicate. Their coffee and tea options are extensive. I love their iced lattes (they have non-dairy alternatives available as well). The atmosphere is modern, yet cozy. It can get really busy on the weekends (and even week days) so plan ahead and expect a small line. And go early if you want to get something specific.

Their croissants are divine. They are perfectly buttery and flaky. I would definitely recommend. I tried for the first time and went back the same morning to get more to share with my family--so they had an instant return customer. The ladies were very friendly and provided personal service as well. Everyone eating there seemed to be genuinely happy with their purchase. I found a gem in the heart of Church Hill.

So much goodness, just not enough of it on a daily basis. The only reason it's not five stars is that unless you get there early you are very unlikely to find what you want but if you're an early riser and can get there you will be a happy camper.
The savory ham and cheese pastries are amazing.
