Stylish choice for modern Thai cooking

The Zagat Review
“Thai-rific” exclaim fans of this “must-try” Bouldin Creek eatery bringing the Southeast Asian cuisine “to a whole new level” via “amazing small dishes” (the “son-in-law” deserves “a shout out” ), curries and whole market catch; it’s “dimly lit” and can get “a little loud” among the large wooden communal tables, so some opt to “enhance the experience” by sitting at the chef’s counter “overlooking the kitchen.”

Absolutely the best! The restaurant is crowded and it's little wonder. The variety and quality of the dishes is spectacular. So is the wait staff. Top picks include the Son-in-law, the fried rice with crab, the chicken wings and the soups. The curry dish was appropriately very spicy and a surprising treat. Our party of 5 ordered 12 dishes to share and there simply was not a bad one in the bunch. Great restaurant.

Sway is a modern Thai restaurant nestled in the southern side of Austin. The restaurant itself does have several "community" type tables so be aware you could be seating with other groups during busy hours. Also, if you have a large party you should probably reserve and be aware there could be a long wait if you don't. The design of the place is refreshing and offers excellent outside eating ambiance. The food is amazing. Definitely some unique flavors depending what you get. I would say the only negative is the fried rice which didn't strike me as beyond the price point, which I do agree is $$$. Beyond that I think the food is exceptional and worth a bit more. Seasoning is quite exquisite on plenty of the dishes I tried in our party. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. So if you have questions, ASK. Overall, a great Thai place to try out. If you have done some research on the place there should be no surprises.

Sway elevates Thai food to the level it deserves by inviting patrons into a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere with a wide open kitchen and service that doesn't feel needlessly formal. If you can, sit at the bar around the open kitchen. We were able to talk to one of the cooks throughout our meal, and he answered all of our questions with grace and made some spot-on recommendations (get the papaya salad, stuff is unreal). The food comes out as it is ready, so plan on sharing, but as a result you don't get any plates cold. The food is incredibly good, and finds ways to make familiar flavors feel new.
