Tawla
Stylish Eastern Mediterranean locale
Mediterranean · The Mission · $$
Eastern Mediterranean fare gets the Northern California treatment at this modern Mission neighborhood bistro serving homey small plates and large-format mains, plus an ambitious bread selection and upscale wine and cocktails by the Bon Vivants team (Trick Dog, Aatxe) and a veteran sommelier. Moorish and Spanish design inspirations, turquoise walls, intricate latticework and polished concrete keep the interior airy and cheery – and there’s a small outdoor patio.

Superb server. He explained options in ordering clearly, answered all of our questions, and even introduced us to the chef. Our group was celebrating the birthday of a pescatarian member. The server and chef were considerate of this in bringing only one plate with meat and by providing a candle on our celebrant's selected dessert.

Nice atmosphere. Good food. But a little bit expensive.

This is my favorite middle eastern restaurant in the USA. Every time I come to SF I eat here. The appetizers are amazing (esp. the labne and the muhammara). The bread is baked on demand and it is not your typical pita; its fluffy and has sesame seeds on top. The salads are to die for and the main dishes are exquisite. I am always amazed there is not more wait to sit. The servers are also super helpful to choose the best food and they are always smiling. Finally, the Lebanese wines they have are delicious and at good prices.
