So you should definitely get reservations. After looking online I assumed it was a fancy bar. It's not they were completely full, but we're able to accommodate us at the bar. We mostly turned it into a small plates experience. The dishes were cool and creative. We probably got one two many fried items, but that's probably how I ordered. The side of mushrooms was hidden at the bottom of the page, and was definitely a star.

LOVED this restaurant! 💜Went for brunch with several friends and had the Monks Breakfast which was soooo good!!! The food had wonderful flavors with unique presentation. Our server was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. The drinks were delicious! Being a mixologist myself I'm extremely picky but I was pleasantly impressed. My entire group thoroughly enjoyed their meal and drinks as well. I will definitely be back!

I have lived on the block that this establishment resides on for over twenty years now. I have had the opportunity to see this establishment's construction, growth, and success within our community. Today I went in for the first time and was absolutely disgusted with how they treated me, a food courier, and a local. Upon entering the dingy and depressing atmosphere which is downstairs, I was greeted by the pompous owner's elitist demeanor, who scolded me when picking up food because of discrepancies in the past between his business and the food delivery service (completely out of my control). Arrogant, combative, difficult, and inconsiderate are just some of the words I would use this individual's behavior as his actions forced me to leave empty-handed, despite being accommodating with him. I consider myself to be a patient and respectful person, but there is only so much condescension and unprofessionalism that I can tolerate. It's overpriced, snooty businesses owned by arrogant management like this that are compromising the cultural integrity of the Upper West Side/ Manhattan Valley/ Harlem with mediocre food that only appeals to those of a higher socioeconomic class (Not the locals). If you're in the area, do Manhattan Valley and yourself a favor and skip The Fat Monk. Go to Chirping Chicken across the street or literally any deli in the neighborhood and you are sure to receive a better experience and a better value.
