Overlooking the White House, this “impressive old-school dining room” in the Hay-Adams Hotel offers an “elegant” , “relaxing” escape from DC’s “dither” for the power players and visitors dining here; sure, the “superior” American food and “impeccable” service come at a premium price, but you get a “memorable experience” in return.

Went here for dinner over the weekend. My husband and I had quite a lovely dinner. The service was excellent, the live piano music was wonderful, and, more importantly, the food was divine. I ordered the scallops and they were cooked to perfection. No rubber here 😄. My husband and I were very impressed, that we each ordered our own desserts. I ordered the pear streudel.. soo good nice and warm with ice cream. Excellent meal. Plus afterwards, you can take a nice stroll around the white house. We’ll be back... cheers!

I come to the Lafayette for brunch once every month or two. In the 10 times I've dined here, I have had nothing but phenomenal experiences. I do need to make it a point to come for dinner soon, but this is in my top three brunch places in the city. Well, top two because LaFayette and Fiola Mare are the only ones on the list. Everything else pales in comparison. The pianist (I'm sorry but I saw in an earlier post that someone complained about the piano... are you serious?!), the wait staff, the floral arrangements, the champagne, the views from the windows and the upstairs if you're so lucky to be treated to a tour, the desserts, the political celebrity appearances (I've met Bob Dole here twice!)... simply the best. I try not to spread the word too much because I don't want the secret to get out! Also: Off the Record is the absolute BEST! I love everything about the Hay Adams.
