The Office NYC
Rarified cocktail bar with playful bites
Bar · West 50s · $$$$
Tucked into The Aviary, an offshoot of the Chicago bar by Alinea’s Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas, this rarified spot on the 35th floor of the Mandarin Oriental serves high-end cocktails, ultra-vintage spirits and fancy bites (which can also be ordered as a playful tasting menu with drink pairings). The richly designed space has a clubby, old-time style, and reservations are recommended.

Came here with my girlfriend following a suggestion we received from our concierge. The bar reminds of the good olden days, great selection of spirits and knowledgeable staff. The ambiance is very comforting. The mussles are a must for every visitor and the best ones we’ve ever had!

I was so disappointed. We reserved “The Dusty Bottle” experience at The Office and drinks were normal cocktails - good but nothing special. Food was tasty but not mind blowing. For $600+ I expected so much more and this was a huge disappointment. Save your money and go to any other $$$ restaurant for delicious food and great cocktails. The Office is not worth it.

Of the two restaurants, the aviary and the office, I prefer the office. Its quieter, and more traditional in that you can order your own drinks. The aviary really wants you to order their pre-batched cocktails. Service is better in the office, but everything is just as expensive. The food is delicious, but if you are hungry it's best that you eat before you come either restaurant. Especially if you are on a budget. If you have deep pockets, they have an amazing list of vintage spirits and cocktails.
