The Pastry War
Colorful bar featuring tequila & mezcal
Bar · Downtown · $$
From artisanal spirits to classic Mexican cocktails, this Downtown bar is serious about tequila and its agave-based cousin, mezcal. Just around the corner from sibling OKRA Charity Saloon, the narrow space allows for both intimacy and boisterousness in separate areas festooned with a cantina motif, including a skull-laden ceiling mural above the indoor patio.

Arrived around 8 at night wasn't too crowed I think the beer is reasonably priced compared to what I'm usually paying. Diverse crowd with pool tables which is a plus. Nice area in downtown so if you're looking to bar hop there are different ones on the area. Bartender was pleasant and served me in a timely manner. Great place to go with friends.

This place might be good for a couple drinks but that's it. I couldn't see myself spending more than an hour in here (and we didn't). It's small and loud with only a handful of places to sit. We sat at a booth and ended up having to order drinks from a tiny bar that everyone crowded around because the service is super slow. What little food they have is just appetizers and they are all overpriced. $5.99 for chips and small bowl of salsa is ridiculous. The only enjoyable aspect for me was the decor.

Solid spot for all the mezcal you can drink. Start with one of the best house margaritas around (on the rocks with salt) and then mess around with some jalapeño and mezcal. Friendly staff that tries their best to get to everyone fairly and equitably. It does get crazy packed some nights which leaves you sliding up against the wall to get to the pool room or to leave the bar itself.
