New American · LoHi · $$
These artsy hangouts sport a comic book–style menu of New American snacks and shared plates with Asian and Latin influences, backed by a syllabus of equally vibrant cocktails including customized "jam" drinks made using fruit and vegetable spreads. The quirky-cool setups are anchored by long bars and decorated with conversation-piece knickknacks.

What a hidden gem! Root Down had an hour wait for brunch but no wait a block away, so we tried it! No regrets! Must try pork belly and potatoe app together! Service was excellent! I only review five star places, no review to me means 4 stars or less. I prefer to talk to management than leave bad reviews.

Good: the food was tasty and creative. The cocktails were too. The staff was nice Bad: the theme/concept of this restaurant is decidedly confused. We walked in and there were large animal costume heads on every table. Why? The one table without a costume head featured a hobby horse and trombone. I sincerely hope this is not a permanent feature. It feels like this restaurant was decorated by a theater kid.

This place bills itself as a restaurant, but it is really a bar; however, the food options are interesting, eclectic, and delicious. The specialty drinks are also interesting and well-crafted. The wine list is small, but high-quality and reasonably priced. The space is long and narrow with a cocktail bar in front and an open kitchen in the back with more bar seating in front of it. The staff was helpful and entertaining. My only complaints were the uncomfortable seating and the cheap chopsticks which immediately gave me a splinter. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.
