Modern Mexican fare in a lively setting

The Zagat Review
“Deservedly popular” , these “haute cantinas” offer “thoughtful” Mexican fare that's a big “step up from the ordinary” served by an “aim-to-please” staff; sure, the “lively” digs can be “jammed and noisy” , but a “dazzling array” of margaritas provides some distraction.

Took my mother for her Birthday celebration and had a great time. Excellent customer service from the Manager Señor Aguilar to the host and the waiters. We asked to be switched tables and no one had and inconvenience or put on a face to be bothered by our request. The staff was very accommodating and also very warm in their interaction. Food and drinks were great! Would recommend and will go back again. Thank you to Toloache staff whom made the evening special and a wonderful eating experience!!

What's positive? Well they we're quick to fill up the water, and the guacamole was fresh albeit tiny compared to other places around the city. Its close to Broadway and that is probably the only thing keeping this place in business Overall it's not the best Mexican food, downstairs is crowded and noisy and the restrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs always seem to have lines. Also check your check! We had two items added to the bill that we didn't order. Yes those scams are typical of old New York, but the city has moved in a positive direction and many restaurants are actually honest these days (shocking, I know).

I have come here 3 times. The food has been excellent every time. I am absolutely enamored with their brussel sprouts, which somehow manages to overshadow their excellent steak and appetizers. The only thing that detracted a star (because I cannot give 4.5) is the layout of this establishment. I always feel like I am eating on top of other patrons and, if you are wearing a coat, you will almost inevitably hit another patron with it and they will hit you with theirs. I still highly recommend Toloache!
