The Zagat Review
“Perfectly tender” noodles in “powerhouse” broths draw fans to these “fast-paced” , cash-only joints where you go for the “soul-satisfying” ramen, not the “utilitarian” digs; no reservations lead to “crazy” waits, but no one minds given the “cheap” tabs and “real-deal” grub.

Went here after refusing to eat anything across the street at "Turtle Bay Tavern" (life is too short to eat bad food in NYC). Picked this spot because of the stellar reviews on both Google maps and Yelp (unique to find both services agreeing). I have to say I was pretty disappointed. After reading rave reviews about the pork bun I ordered one. I didn't realize I was getting "a modern take" on a pork bun that seemed more akin to a "sandwich". The pork bun was absolutely drenched in mayonnaise (mayo with a pork bun?) making it hard to taste the pork. It also wasn't one slice of pork which meant it fell apart while eating it. For a main course I ordered the "Spicy Paitan". The broth was average which really overshadowed the fact that the noodles were cooked well. Broth and noodle combo was just not very flavorful. I ordered chicken for my protein because I already had pork as an entree and how Ramen places handle chicken can be illuminating in my opinion. As expected, the chicken was reflective of the rest of the food: so-so. Chicken was physically tough and not season or cooked creatively. Two slices of chicken also seemed cheap. Definitely not pleased to have spent the money, though maybe I'll give it a second shot and order something different if I'm in the area again.

Here again. Love this place...always have a great experience. My favorite is sitting at the counter. I always meet awesome people, love to watch the chefs work and create magic. Bring cash only. They will only seat you if your whole party is present. Turn over is high and always busy. In & out. Great alone or with friends. Hooks for bags and jackets are under counter or on walls. They also do NOT do to go. They don't have containers to take leftovers either.

Stopped by for lunch today and this place is an absolute gem. Tiny place that just works well with the whole package. Great ramen options and the soup was some of the best I’ve had in a while. Also loved the 90’s/00’s hip-hop playing while I ate.
