“Every bite is a revelation” at Tyson Cole’s Zilker jewel box where “extraordinary” sushi made from “the freshest fish” and other “Japanese food at its finest” is paired with a selection of sake, wine and cocktails; the sophisticated setting in a “lovely” remodeled cottage, the chic crowd and “impeccable” service are all part the “experience” , which is “a splurge, but well worth it.”

We went without a reservation knowing we'd have a long wait ahead of us. But that ended up being part of our fantastic evening at Uchi. We sat on the patio, had a couple of cocktails (Tokyo Mule 👍) and snacks. The service and attentiveness on the patio was great. Kept us aware of how long it would be to be seated, brought one bite snacks, kept drinks filled. Then once inside, wow. We sat at the bar and basically had our own chef. We let him just make things for us. He told us to let him know what we thought of each course, and from that he could direct our meal. There wasn't anything we didn't like. And we ate til we were beyond stuffed. We were blown away by how fresh and bright everything tasted. Thank you Vince! I'd recommend a reservation, but don't let that stop you from eating at Uchi.

Perfect atmosphere, casual yet elegant, for the perfect meal. Try the tasting menu, it's affordable and gives you a broad introduction to the menu. You may need to supplement a few other dishes, but that's just an opportunity to explore more of their fine cuisine. Good with shellfish allergies too!

I would normally give Uchi a 5 star but last time that I visited I was slightly disappointed, the service as always was exceptional and the atmosphere was amazing( Many people complain about how loud it is but I think it actually adds to the atmosphere in a positive manner) but I this time the food actually lacked. I make it my goal everytime I am able to visit Austin to go to Uchi because it such a spectacular experience and until this most recent visit I was guaranteed amazing Sushi/Japanese cuisine. Don't get me wrong the food is still amazing, but I hold Uchi to a different level due to the other times that I have gone. Consistency is incredibly difficult to obtain, especially when dealing with sushi, and when on such a high level of standard Uchi has an even more difficult journey. But overall I still think Uchi is a must visit, just be prepare to spend 40+ a plate easily.
