The Zagat Review
“Every bite is a revelation” at Tyson Cole’s Zilker jewel box where “extraordinary” sushi made from “the freshest fish” and other “Japanese food at its finest” is paired with a selection of sake, wine and cocktails; the sophisticated setting in a “lovely” remodeled cottage, the chic crowd and “impeccable” service are all part the “experience” , which is “a splurge, but well worth it.”

Every bite is amazing. Seriously amazing food. We ordered 5 different items and everything was incredible. We especially liked the hot plates (the fish, chicken, and pork were amazing). The cold plate with yucca and pear was also culinary genius. I think what makes this restaurant unique is the way the chef merges southwestern foods with spins on traditional Asian fare. It's unexpected and wonderful. The sake drinks were also lovely. There is a wide and carefully curated selection, along with exquisitely prepared sake cocktails. The only downside is how loud the restaurant is. Could only hear each other if we shouted. It would be nice to be able to linger over the tastes with good conversation. I'd also love more hot tea selections...

I haven't eaten anything at Uchi that wasn't prepared perfectly. You can easily spend 300 before you've realized it, so if you go there, keep that in mind. This is a high quality establishment, but you do have to pay maybe even a little above and beyond. Portioning is done correctly, service is always excellent. As far as sushi, I have yet to find better in Austin, and its of a higher quality, generally speaking, than most of what you would find in Japan. Even though Japan(obviously) does have higher quality sushi overall, in comparison to basically any other country, this place still comes out in the upper echelon in terms of excellence of quality, variety and culinary execution.

Was waiting for almost 2 hours... It’s not authentic Japanese food and the style is more similar to contemporary European and American cuisine that using sushi materials. However, the fish are very fresh and tasty, which is the best i would never forget. The other dishes do have a good looking but taste very general and the price is too high. I like the way they present food but the dishes are so tiny that even the real Japanese don't feel enough. one person at least need to order 6 dishes.
