Dual locale for Japanese tasting menus
Sushi · Lower East Side · $$$$
This omakase-style Japanese spot on the Lower East Side offers two options: an understated 10-seat sushi bar serving a tasting menu by chef Eiji Ichimura, and a modern eight-seat kaiseki counter with rich wood decor and an emphasis on drink pairings. There’s a business-casual dress code and strict reservation policy, and meals last about two-and-a-half hours.

Sweet little gem tucked in Lower East. Uchu has 2 different bars. I had the chance to try the Omakase and Sushi. From start to finish, Chef Ichimura prepared all dishes with skill and grace. Food was delicious. I highly recommend.

Small and intimate setting was pleasant and allowed for staff to display their knowledge and attentiveness. Great service and attention to details, such as noticing left handed diners and placing silverware accordingly. The kaiseki experience was as balanced and satisfying as we could ask for. Seemed like the sweet spot between the class of French cuisine and the simplicity and freshness of Japanese. Impressed with the preparation of egg, uni, and wagyu dishes. Very reminiscent of a recent Japan trip with speaks to it's authenticity. Overall a comprehensive and wonderfully thoughtful dining experience.
