The Zagat Review
Something “different from the norm” , this “cutting-edge” NoLita hangout offers a “new-school” take on Thai cuisine via “vibrant flavors” and very “serious spicing” ; an “attentive” team tends the “knickknack” -filled basement space, where “must-try” beer slushies can be ordered from the “cozy” bar; its tiny Mott Street sib is a counter-serve, credit card–only outfit offering a takeout menu based on the original, with some seating available.

First time trying Thai food. Loved it! Very unique flavors. We got two dishes recommended by the waitress and crab fried rice, everything was great! The place rarely take reservations (you can give a try online) so we got pretty lucky to find a open table. It was 10pm on a Wednesday so that was probably why.

The food was totally outstanding; best Thai food we've had in as long as I can remember, and amongst the best we've had in a couple of years across 10+ cities we've been to in recent times. Staff are friendly, and even though others were told the wait time was 2 hours, maybe it was the look of disappointment on our faces, but we were then told one of the high tables would be available soon. We chose the massaman beef and 1/2 rotisserie chicken, along with pea shoots and sticky rice. All were amazing, but the pea shoots were the unexpected star. We rounded off with coconut rice with mango. Highly recommend making your way to uncle boons, worth whatever trip you need to make to get there!

If you like Thai food you must try Uncle Boons. The menu is made up of slight twists on traditional Thai cuisine that are all excellent, respectfully executed dishes. The food is complimented with a lovely atmosphere, friendly service and a delicious cocktail menu. Please be aware you will have to wait at least an hour if not more for a space on most evenings. The best option is to put your name on the list and then check out one of the many great bars in the neighborhood while you wait.
