A modern-rustic setting with two lively bars and patio seating provide the backdrop for this "popular" Gaslamp "hot spot" (with a sister spot in Encinitas) serving "creative" American cuisine with a Southern bent alongside "quality beers" ; the "bustling" atmosphere appeals to a young crowd of tourists and locals who don’t mind if bills can be "a bit expensive."

Met here during a conference for a business happy hour meeting. Sat outside. The drinks were cold and good. We didn't order any appetizers since we we heading to a dinner event later. Service was good. The only problem was one bench was missing the foot rest so our legs had to dangle freely. :)

I enjoyed Union Kitchen for Sunday brunch on 5/6/18. The staff was courteous and the food was decent. Bit cool on the patio, but the people watching was worth it. No pictures of the food but I had "the local" which was eggs/sausage/potatoes/toast. Nice!

My fiance and I ate here while on holiday in San Diego this April. This was the first restaurant we went to when we arrived and we did not check reviews online prior, we chose here because it looked like a popular spot. Looking back after visiting other restaurants, I will say that the menu is a little less expansive than other surrounding options. Having food intolerances (gluten-free) and others I really should have checked reviews first so that is my fault. In saying that, the restaurant did not seem to have gluten friendly options. I asked the server if she could recommend anything to me and she could not, which is okay because I realize this is a personal circumstance. I just thought I would write this for any fellow gluten-free friends checking reviews. The food was just fair, and we waited quite a long time for our food and drinks. Perhaps it would be a different scenario for someone else, or if you came later at night as opposed to around lunch.
