Vessel NOLA
Coastal Med menu in former church digs
American · Mid-City · $$
Set in a historic former church, this Mid-City Mediterranean dishes up seasonal coastal fare with Louisiana inspirations – think Gulf snapper crudo, charcuterie and creative flatbreads – in a striking space complete with original stained-glass windows, Gothic chandeliers and high ceilings. True to the restaurant's name, the bar serves its cocktails, beer bombers and wine in thoughtfully chosen vessels.

Cool location and layout but this is a place to avoid. Staff has a serious attitude problem, especially the Asian bartender. Three people working the bar and it was not busy, but trying to make any small talk about the bar itself or drink recommendations resulted in a rude, nose-in-the-air response. I asked if he had any ideas on a drink made with mezcal to which he disappeared without asking me and returned with a drink that was too sweet and he charged me the maximum rate ($14) for the drink. The other drinks were fine but the utter lack of friendliness ruined this place as a whole.

Delicious cocktails and friendly, attentive service at the bar. The food was great, if a little overpriced (e.g. $9 for a pickle plate). I especially enjoyed the burger and the lentils. The setting is beautiful and even a little eerie at night (in a good way).

Food was great. Service was atrocious. This place was okay, but not great. We made reservations ahead of time after reading reviews of the place. Once seated, we asked our waitress for recommendations for cocktails, which we ordered. After 15 minutes and a few apologies from our waitress, one cocktail was delivered correctly and the other had to be reordered as it was incorrect. 10 more minutes later, my boyfriend and I were finally enjoying our cocktails. The pickle and cheese plates were good, and our dinner was wonderful! The chefs did a wonderful job and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Once ready for a check, we waited another 10 minutes for our waitress and when the final bill was received, I had been overcharged for my meal. I asked to see a manager, but instead the waitress took care of it on her own. This place seems like they care more about their style than they do about their patrons. I will not be going back. I will not be recommending.
