Classy cuisine in a historic space
New American · Downtown · $$$
Inhabiting the historic former home of the venerable Locke-Ober, this "super-hopping" Downtown hideaway puts a "tongue-in-cheek" spin on the classic supper club, serving "incredible" New American cuisine, including communal plates, plus "well-crafted" , "imaginative" cocktails in a "speakeasy-style" atmosphere; flocked wallpaper, chandeliers and an "opulent" , mahogany-swathed Library Bar add "throwback" "glamour" to the "spectacular" space, making it a "must-visit."

By far my favorite bar in Boston, especially for cocktails. Drinks are creative and always very well done. Bartenders are personable & knowledgeable. Food is upscale, but adventurous and worth the splurge for some small plates. You really can’t go wrong with any of the pitas either. They really nailed the speakeasy aesthetic for this place. Highly recommend sitting at the lounge / library bar if you can. It’s a really well done space and feels like sipping a drink in Jay Gatsby’s mansion. A word of caution: this place gets incredibly busy by early evening and especially late at night on weekends. We tend to go between 4 & 6 on weekdays to avoid some of the crowds. Anything later and you will probably want s reservation just to be safe.

Very cool place in the old Locke Ober Restaurant space. It’s beautiful inside and very well decorated. There is a secret staircase (you’ll never find it on your own) that leads down to another private bar and gathering area with a sunken sitting area and a working fireplace. The staff is very nice, the ambiance is chill and the drinks were all very good. Highly recommend this spot and will definitely be back soon!

Cool spot. The entrance is deceptive, like a bad hairdressers. When you walk through the secret door you enter this amazing library-like speakeasy. Interesting menu serving Tapas-come-family-style with a variety of meats and fish and veggie options. Tables are big with comfy chairs and a generally hip vibe. It’s spendy, so glad I was there on business. Definitely go for the baked Alaska dessert. It’s $45 and was plenty for a table of six, but a lot of fun and tasty.
